Guide
to Drop Shipping
Introduction
Drop shipping is an ecommerce business model
that allows you to sell products without having to have any inventory or ship
them yourself. The beauty of this method is that it allows you to build your
business without having to worry about managing inventory or shipping products,
which can be expensive and time-consuming. You simply choose a niche, research
your audience and choose suppliers from whom you want to buy their products,
set up an ecommerce website for your store and start selling!
What Is Drop Shipping?
Drop shipping is a retail fulfillment method in
which a store does not keep goods in stock, but instead transfers the customer
order and shipment details to either the manufacturer, another retailer or to a
wholesaler, who then ships the goods directly to the customer. The main
advantage of drop shipping is that it allows you to buy products at wholesale
prices while still maintaining control over your business.
Drop shipping services are primarily used by
e-commerce companies selling physical goods like books or clothing items
through their own websites. These sites allow customers to browse for products
online (and even purchase), but also offer direct access so that if you want
something shipped directly from one company's warehouse instead of going
through another site first (like Amazon), all you have do is click on
"drop ship me" before proceeding with payment information
verification process
How Does Drop Shipping
Work?
Drop shipping is a business model in which you
don’t have to manage inventory or ship products. Instead, you simply place an
order with a supplier, who ships the product directly to your customer. You
make money from the difference between what you pay the supplier and what you
charge your customer.
Drop shipping has been around for decades but
gained popularity in recent years as ecommerce companies began using it as part
of their marketing strategy.
Step 1: Choose a niche
The first step to drop shipping is choosing a
niche. It's important to choose a niche that you are passionate about, but also
one that is profitable. If you're new to the business, start by finding out
what kinds of products are selling well on Amazon and eBay. You can use Google
Trends or Bing Trends for this purpose (see below).
If your chosen product has low demand, then it
may not sell well even if it costs less than an equivalent branded one from
another company—and in some cases this could mean disaster for your brand! For
example: if people only buy one type of laptop at Walmart but your laptop costs
$1 more per unit than theirs does ($1000 instead of $999), then they won't buy
yours unless they really need something like yours right now...and likely not
even then because their needs change over time so quickly these days....so
don't get too excited just because someone bought something yesterday; chances
are most people won't do anything remotely similar again soon enough either
way."
Step 2: Research your
audience
Now that you have a general idea of who your
target audience is and what they like to do, it's time to get down to business.
One of the most important things for any
business is knowing who exactly your customers are. This can help you
understand why they are buying from you rather than someone else in the market,
as well as whether or not there are any gaps in their needs that could be
filled by your product offering.
You should also take some time out of this step
by researching other companies in similar industries so that you know how
successful those businesses were at attracting customers before starting up
shop yourself!
Step 3: Choose a supplier
When you've chosen your drop ship supplier, it's
time to start shopping.
First of all, make sure that the supplier has a
good reputation and reviews. You can find out if they have any negative feedback
by looking at their website or social media pages and reading customer reviews.
If there are any complaints about their products or services, it may be best
not to use them as an option for your business.
Secondly, look into what products they offer in
addition to those that you need for your dropshipping business plan (see step
#2 above). For example: if I'm selling shoes online from China through Amazon
FBA but I want boots too because my customers want both kinds of footwear when
shopping online then I would contact several suppliers until I find one who
will sell me both types of shoes together at once without additional cost -
this way my customers get all three things they want without paying too much
money!
Step 4: Set up your
ecommerce website
Now that you have your ecommerce platform, it's
time to set up your website.
● Choose a theme: You can use any of the themes on ThemeForest or Creative Market if you're looking for
something free and simple. If you want something more customized and
professional-looking, check out ThemeGrill or other premium themes from
developers like StudioPress and Beaver Builder.
● Choose a domain name: If you're using WordPress (which I
recommend), then choose an extension such as .com or .org so that people know
what they're getting when they visit your site!
● Get hosting: Hosting is important because it's where all of our
files will live in order for them not get lost during updates/upgrades later on
down the road when needed most! We recommend Hostinger because they offer
everything we need at affordable rates while still providing great customer
service should we ever need them."
Step 5: Add products to
your store
You can add products to your store using a
plugin, import from a CSV file, or even manually enter them.
● Add products by hand. In the WordPress dashboard under “Store” click on “Add New Product" and then choose either “Create New Product” or “Import From File” (if you have already created an XML file). If you are adding products manually enter them into the relevant fields in your products table in WooCommerce. There are more details about how to do this here
Step 6: Set up your payment
process and method
Once you've got all the pieces in place, it's
time to get started on the actual payment process.
● Credit Card Processing: This is how people pay and how they want
to pay. If someone wants to buy something from you, they'll click
"Purchase" or "Checkout" and enter their credit card
information in order for you to take their money (and hopefully make some
profit).
● Accepting Payments Online: If someone has already paid for your
product or service but doesn't want anything happening until tomorrow morning
at 10am sharp when they wake up [insert joke here], then this is where that
person can go ahead and click 'Purchase' without having any kind of account
created beforehand.
● Getting Started With A Payment Processor: There are tons of
different types of payment processors out there; some specialize in certain
kinds of transactions while others do everything under one roof—so figure out
which kind best suits what needs doing before diving into setting up each part
individually! Some common examples include Stripe/Pay Pal/Payza etcetera...
Step 7: Launch your store
and start selling!
Now that you've launched your store, it's time
to sell. You can do this in a variety of ways:
● Promote your store through social media and word-of-mouth.
● Keep an eye on how many people are visiting your site from Google
or Facebook referrals.
● Analyze the data collected from these visits to figure out what products are selling best and why they perform so well (or not).
Dropshipping is an ecommerce business model in
which you don’t have to manage inventory or ship products. Instead, the items
are supplied by a supplier and then shipped directly to your customer. You as
the dropshipper handle everything else — marketing, customer service and even
payment processing. This can be a great way for new entrepreneurs or small
businesses looking to expand their product offerings without having to invest
too much money upfront!
The best part about dropshipping? It's scalable:
if something goes wrong with your first few orders (i.e., they don't arrive),
it won't affect how much money you make overall because all of them will still
be sold through this method eventually!
Conclusion
Drop shipping is an easy way to run your own
ecommerce business. It’s also a great opportunity for you if you want to start
a business from the ground up and don’t have much experience in marketing or
running an online store. Plus, with dropshipping, there are no shipping costs!
