Rivian R1T & R1S |
Introduction
Can an EV really be considered an alternative to the big three trucks? And, if it’s not truly an option, what’s the point of investing in one? To answer these questions, let’s take a look at two electric vehicles (EVs) that have taken the American market by storm. The Rivian R1T and R1S promise much but can they deliver? Let’s dive into their features and decide whether or not these cars really are the alternative to gas-powered vehicles you’ve been looking for.
The base price for the Rivian R1T is $71,000 while the R1S starts off at $78,000. The R1T offers a ton of options which can stretch the price of the vehicle up to $90,0000.
The Rivian R1T is a truck built to be the most luxurious, high-tech, and off-road capable SUV on the planet. It has a spacious trunk with seating for seven passengers, three rows of seats with reclining backs, car-like handling, electric range up to 314 miles in ideal conditions on a single charge, full 4G LTE connectivity for internet access anywhere in North America. The Rivian R1S is the smaller sibling with seating for five passengers in two rows of seats. The R1S also has an electric range up to 320 miles on a single charge plus all the same tech and luxury features as the R1T.

The interiors of the RIvian R1t and R1s are spacious and comfortable. The dashboard of the truck is minimalistic but also full of features, such as a heads-up display for the driver, a center console with two USB ports, and individual seats for each passenger.
The back seats can be folded down to create more trunk space if needed. The R1s has a large amount of trunk space by design, while the R1t's trunk is slightly smaller due to its SUV shape. Both vehicles have been designed to accommodate tall drivers and passengers, who would otherwise not have enough headroom in a regular car or truck.
The Rivian R1t and R1s have an estimated range of 250 miles and can reach a speed of 120 miles per hour. The battery can be recharged in 45 minutes and because the cars are electric, they don't produce emissions. Furthermore, the Rivian has four different driving modes depending on the environment or your preference, including Normal, Offroad, ECO Mode and Performance Mode.
In Offroad mode, drivers will
be able to travel up steep grades as well as across rocks and other obstacles
with little difficulty. In Eco Mode, drivers will get more power out of every
kilowatt when compared to standard vehicles, which means better gas mileage for
drivers who spend lots of time on the road.
In Performance Mode, drivers get greater acceleration from a standing start with less degradation from higher speeds; this mode is great for people who enjoy going fast. In summary, the two trucks offered by Rivian offer multiple modes of use that can accommodate any lifestyle. If you're looking for a vehicle with low maintenance, high performance and excellent efficiency, it's worth checking out these models by Rivian!
The R1t and R1s offer drivers four different modes for a variety of driving conditions. Off-Road mode is best for tackling the toughest terrain, Conserve Mode allows the driver to save fuel and extend range, Rally Mode is designed for high-speed performance, and Towing Mode offers increased engine braking power. The R1s features an optional automatic transmission, while the R1t has a manual transmission with a clutch pedal. They both have all-wheel drive and are available in a number of colors. The R1s seats five people and has 2+2 seating, while the R1t seats up to three people but offers 1+2 seating configuration as well.
In the Rivian R1T and R1S, cargo is stored in the truck bed behind the cab. That means you don't have to deal with a trailer, which can be a pain to hook up and disconnect. It also means your cargo is secure from any weather conditions. These trucks are rated for 16 cubic feet of storage space, which is enough room for a couple of motorcycles or a few bikes. You could probably even fit an old sofa or loveseat in there if you were feeling ambitious. The standard R1T has an 8' bed and the standard R1S has a 10' bed, but the length of your truck can be customized from 7' to 12'.
Rivian's new camp kitchen is a versatile, lightweight, one person cooking kit with everything you need to create a gourmet meal at your campsite. A strong aluminum frame is paired with an all season tent, two ovens in two sizes, a two burner stove, two 20 liter pots with lid handles, a wind screen cover for the cook top and space for your tools. The whole thing weighs in at just over 5 pounds! On my first trip out I cooked up some bacon wrapped shrimp tacos with snow peas from our garden. It was the perfect meal after a long day of exploring. I had the Snow Peak Rivian Camp Kitchen packed up in 10 minutes before we headed back.
Conclusion
Rivian has a way of just making every truck they release seem like it's the best one they've ever made. The Rivian R1T is no exception, with its powerful diesel engine, electric range extender, fuel efficiency, and unbelievably clever design. The only downside to this truck is the $73k price tag. It might be worth it to some people though - you'll never have to worry about gas prices again! The Rivian R1S is a lower-priced option for those who don't need all the bells and whistles of its bigger brother.
